Father Drabbles For open_on_sunday 6/19/05 - #1-3

Challenge #117

This week's challenge, as suggested by zandra_x, is... Fathers.

Look! 300 words managed. Hope they make some sense. Cross posted to open_on_sunday and my regular journal.

Pre-Series – William/Cecily

1. Be Fruitful and Multiply

William dresses with care; his Sunday suit looks a little worse for wear these days, but it’s the best he’s got. Not that Miss Addams will be put off by a few stray threads when his soul shines for her. One look and she’ll see the dream in his heart – a beautiful future together.

Ignoring the hushed sniggers of the other guests, he sits in the drawing room, envisioning life years down the line. Several strapping sons, a toddler daughter; dark curly hair and blue eyes like their papa.

Perhaps he’ll write a poem as he awaits his beloved’s arrival.

AtS – Season 4 – Angel, Connor

2. Film at Eleven

Angel stares at the screen embedded in the wall; Connor’s glowering visage shredding his soul. There’s nothing but hatred and despair radiating from the boy. In many ways, he’s deader than any vampire. Lilah’s yammering fades into the background, and all he can see is his failure as a father. He’s failed to protect his child from hell on earth.

Slowly, a plan forms. If Wolfram and Hart wants him so badly, they’ll have to sweeten the pot. Even if it means excising Connor from existence. It’s for his own good, after all. A father’s sacrifice.

He states his case.

AtS – Season 5 – Spike, Angel, Connor

3. Of Children and Vampires

The revelation rocks Spike to his foundation. His Grandsire has a human son. By Darla! The vampire who hated humanity was gifted with the ultimate blessing… an heir. Not just a childe – blood kin.

The very thing his erstwhile vampire family had taken away from William. A chance to carry on his lineage, such as it was. To bounce a little nipper on his knee and send him out into the world to make his mark.

Instead, when things go tits up, Angel cuts his losses, as usual, and gives his child away. Wipes him from everyone’s mind.

Spike seethes.

I really liked them! The first and last in particular... but they were all very good.

So pleased you enjoyed the drabbles. Hopefully it means the muse is on her way home to stay.

I hope so... such fickle creatures these muse's. Mine like starting NEW things all the time... he has commitment issues... and when I tell him no he sulks and won't talk to me for days. **sigh** so now I just write a little of what he wants and stick it in an evil bunny folder... keeps him happy!

Wishing you the best... I do hope she is home to stay! **hugs**

These are great sweetie! I'm just so happy to see you writing something again!!!

Hon, it was like pulling teeth - but at least I managed this week. Would you believe I have father issues? **snorts** I do hope to nurture the spark... want to write more. Glad you liked 'em.

Spike seethes Well yes! and so did I at the time - though for different reasons. Love the setup for this, poignant and 100% believable.

Tits up Now there's an interesting expression that I can feel infecting my vocabulary even as I type. I'll try not to use it at the mothers and toddlers group, as with all the breastfeeding going on, people might get the wrong idea.

**snickers** You know I was thisclose to typing "balls up" instead, but Spike insisted on tits. He's very demanding, you know. Glad you liked the drabble.

All excellent especially the last one. You know I never really thought that Spike would think of hearing about Angel's son in that light but now I can definitely see it. Spike would never, never give a child of his own up and how much would he resent the fact that a. Angel had a child and b. Angel turned him loose.
Good job.

Oh, I so agree with you. Even to his detriment, Spike tends to hold onto what and whom is his. And he'd view what Angel did as cowardly. So glad these drabbles pleased you.

Lovely drabbles, dear! I love how they all tie together, and I especially love the second and third ones! :o) Poor Angel...he thought he was doing the best for Connor, and Spike...he doesn't usually understand Angel's actions. It was interesting to see these two POV juxtaposted against one another. Lovely characterization!

Thanks so much for the kind words. Just trying to feel my way through again. It's been so long since I've written anything. Those two vamps are almost always diametrically opposed in their POVs. Occasionally they come to the same conclusions... but not over this.

Oooh, nice. I like those. Very neat, and i like how you brought it full circle.
Jun. 20th, 2005 07:12 pm (UTC)
Thanks, cutie-pie. Life and unlife often mirror each other, at least with these two. No degrees of separation.
Jun. 20th, 2005 11:07 am (UTC)
Loved them all, but that first one broke my heart.
Jun. 20th, 2005 07:18 pm (UTC)
Sweet William. He had such hopes, didn't he?
Jun. 20th, 2005 07:19 pm (UTC)
He did, poor boy.
